A new year brings new year’s resolutions for many of us. If your goal in 2017 is to become a better bird hunter, we have some resolutions you might just want to try.
Shake Off Bad Shots
Not every shot it going to be a good one. Throughout the year, you’re going to miss or the shot is going to be less than ideal in your eyes. Instead of letting it get you down and affect the rest of your hunt, learn to shake it off and learn from it. Instead of focusing on a bad shot, use it as a learning opportunity and make your next shots better.
Preach Safety
Sadly, accidents do happen with hunting every year, but almost all of them can be prevented with a focus on safety. Take the time to reinforce safety to your peers this year. No one ever wants anything bad to happen when they’re hunting and by reminding everyone how important safety is, you might just be able to prevent an accident from occurring.
Eat Better
Indigestion, cramped muscles and other gastro-intestinal problems tend to happen at the worst time – like in the middle of a hunt. Be mindful of your diet in 2017 to help avoid these problems. For example, eat a healthy breakfast before you head out or have a banana before you go hunting to prevent cramps in your muscles, suggests Bob St. Pierre of Pheasants Forever in an article in the Minneapolis Star Tribune. It’s also important to drink enough water and bring some with you so that you’re always hydrated. Eating well and drinking enough can help you stay on your game and keep you from missing out on a great shot.
Introduce Someone to Hunting
Not everyone hunts, and it’s up to the current generation of sportsmen to help keep the passion alive and pass it along to the next generation. That’s why it’s so important to keep introducing new people to the activity every year. Do your part and take someone out on a hunt this year. It doesn’t matter if it’s your son or daughter, a niece or nephew or a close friend who’s always wanted to get into it – take them out, show them the ropes and keep the tradition of hunting alive for years to come.
